A distinguished group of actresses arrived in the 1920s to perform at the Great China and Mandarin theatres in San Francisco. They included Kwan Ying Lin shown (2nd left) in her most famous role as the wife of the hunchback brother of Wu Sung, one of the chief characters in the dramatization of the classical novel Heroes of the Marshes.
