Guests From China

Berkeley, California, proclaimed October 17-24, 1982, "Silk Road Week" in honor of the visit of the Silk Road Art Troupe of China's Coal Ministry. With 110 members drawn from among the many ethnic groups of China, this was the largest Chinese dance group ever to visit America. Its spectacular, full-length dance drama On the Silk Road tells a story of what was once the main overland trade route between China, the Middle East and Europe. The group's America tour was a new development in U.S.-China cultural contacts.
